  •   Versatile, valuable tool
By on
Pros : Feature-rich, accurate, scalable, great glass library, excellent printer driver, nice lamp wizard... lots of good menus and features. It is CAD -customized for glass design work.
Cons : Users unfamiliar with a little basic CAD can be initially frustrated.
Other Thoughts : Even if all you are making are crosses and red-green tree ornaments, this product can make you a better glass artist. It is the go-to tool for glass design. Classical stained glass, fused glass, even lamps. I have ported the SW through several operating systems and computers, and found the support to be appropriate. The company's level of piracy protection is warranted. It is valuable.

  •   Glass Eye 2000
By on
Pros : This is a great software for the beginner or pro. Easy to use out of the box. I can scan in a basic pattern from a book and trace it into the program in 5 min. including coloring and resizing. I've taken complex pictures from my camera, traced and colored in 45 min. Resizing is easy and accurate. The library designs are nice, but I do mostly original. Customers love that we can choose colors to get an idea of the effects. Color changes are easy. Can email jpgs for approval. Nothing like a signed approval before committing to a $1500 window. As far a customer service, I never needed them till last month when the computer crashed and I had to reload. They had me back running in one phone call.
Cons : Like all CAD software you need to design clean and make all lines connect. Its just good drafting habits or you will spend a little time to get all your pieces to take color. The colors are not exact but no picture does stained glass justice. Like everyone I've changed out my share of glass. The program may seem pricey if your used to free ware but I can use a $99 printer and print a 40" x 40" pattern by tiling and taping. It saved me from buying a $6,000 plotter and plotter paper. The software paid for its self on the first window, and I wrote the up-grade off on my taxes the next year. If your computer crashes you need to call them for a re-load but its no big deal.
Other Thoughts : This program makes me money.

  •   Works Great
By on
Pros : Very intuitive program. Has helped my design work a lot. Faster designs and allows resizing to fit the customers needs. Back ground pictures help to incorporate pictures into designs or show how a design piece will look in a room. It lets you know, if you ask, if there is a design problem, too small of pieces or pieces not colored, etc. I enjoy using it. I have had good customer service from them. They have been responsive and helpful.
Cons : Some of the features require you to upgrade to higher version of the program, but all of the features are available to try with the basic program, you just can't save or print those features. So you can play with them before you buy
Other Thoughts : You can buy a large assortment of designs from Dragonfly in their file format. You can make them as is or modify them to suit your tastes.

  •   No Experience Necessary
By on
Pros : I have been using Glass Eye 2000 for several years now and I just love it. Right from the start I was able to use the program without any training or experience. No more running to the copy store or guessing what color glass I should use. You can even add your glass and texture files to there already large library of glass files, and at a touch of a button or two I can change the glass color or resize the pattern to what ever size I want. I know how my panel will look before I cut my first piece of glass. This program takes all the hard and technical work of designing away from me and lets me get to what I like doing best - Creating. I use Glass Eye 2000 on 95% of the work that I produce. Whether I'm working with lead or foil or both in the same panel, this program does it all. It even allows me to figure the material cost of my panels.
Cons : Because it is so much fun and it gets my creative juices flowing, I tend to spend more time than I should on designing a pattern.
Other Thoughts : I tried other programs but became frustrated because I had no technical experience or the program lacked in it's software design. Not with Glass Eye 2000.

  •   Best Software out there
By on
Pros : Easy software to use. I'll never draw another pattern. I spent some time reading the help files and watching the online tutorial then I was up and running. What I like is I can draw a pattern for a customer and email them the pattern as a jpeg image for them to review and approve. I like the ability to print the pattern with the true lead face width or the width of the heart of the lead. I use a pattern with the lead width on my building board and it helps me keep things lined up. I looked long and hard for stained glass software on the internet and this is by far the best out there. I also had to contact customer support once and they were quick to respond with the answer i needed
Cons : No cons
Other Thoughts : You can tell from using this software that a lot of thought went into the making of it.

  •   Glass Eye 2000 Software
By on
Pros : I have found the software to be very useful in not only with the ready to use patterns, but also in giving me new ideas with my own designs. It is quite enjoyable to see what all the software offers.
Cons : My biggest con would only be that I would love to have more time to enjoy and explore all the different possibilities that could be obtained with the software.

  •   Good Experience
By on
Pros : I purchased this product two years ago and upgraded it to get more features. There are many things that I like about this product. First I love the fact that I can resize any pattern to any size and have it automatically print out in a format that I can tape together. That is a real plus. I also, like the fact that if I scan in a picture from one of my pattern books, I can make the changes on the pattern easily. Also, using the sample glasses I can get a picture of what my project will look like prior to doing all that work.
Cons : There are a limited number of CD patterns offered on the dragonfly website. However, you can use any Paned Expressions Studio CD to download patterns.
Other Thoughts : There are only two things that I would change about the product. One is if you are designing of pattern and then try to color it with glass samples, some times it doesn't color because the shapes are not closed. It takes a lot of time to find the knot that is not actually on both lines. But I am not sure what you can do about that outside of maybe coloring lines that are open. The second improvement would be a way to update the glass samples in the product. I am finding that the longer I have this product, the more glass colors and types I am missing, but I can normally work around this issue to get an idea how it will look and what glass I will need for a project.

  •   Glass Eye 2000
By on
Pros : I purchased Glass Eye 2000 and have been very happy with it. I enjoy features of being able to acquire images from differnt sources and use them as background images to make or incorporate into a pattern that I am making. I also like the feature of being able to copy sections from the many patterns in the Pattern Designs in Glass Eye into the patterns I am making. The best feature is that it will print out the size pattern I want, no more off to the blueprint shop for my pattern enlargements or multipal copies. I can also zoom into a particular area of my pattern and can easily see where I need more or less to get the effects I want in the pattern. The Help Section, which I have used with ease, has answered most of my questions or given me solutions. My husband made a pattern in 2 hours without knowing how to use the program or taking the Tutorials it comes with. I highly recommend it!
Cons : I should have purchased it sooner.
Other Thoughts : I feel it has enhanced my pattern design work and has helped me in my preformance as a stained glass artist.

  •   Amazing Product
By on
Pros : If you do stained glass either professionally or as a hobby, this is a must have. Compare it to being a chief, wouldn't you want the right quality tools to do your job? Ive gone through 3 lap tops since using this program and all it took to transfer was a simple email and I recieved a responce within an hour each time. never had an issue transferring the program.
Cons : I really cant think of any after 10 years of using this program. After 10 years, I'm still learning new things this program will do.
Other Thoughts : I started out 22 years ago just doing stained glass as a hobby, poking it with a stick you might say. Now im doing stained glass full time as a business and could not imagine doing this business without this program. The time you save in the design process will pay for the program in the first few projects.

  •   Glass Eye 2000
By on
Pros : A reasonably simple program dedicated to stained glass.
Cons : 1: Licensing is very problematic. OS upgrades kills the license and requires relicensing. 2: They charge $35 for relicensing support if you need it more than one time a year. 3: Software customer support is average. 4: Expensive if you want features that should be included in the first place.
Other Thoughts : If you are seriously into stained glass design, do not expect that the base product, at $149.00 will meet your needs, you will almost immediately be looking at the "upgrading" to the $295 and $450 versions.

Cons : None
Other Thoughts : Even though I have been at stained glass for a long time I continue to learn more.

  •   They Came Through for Me!
By on
Pros : I bought this software mainly so I could input pictures and trace them. Works pretty good. I lost my license when my computer crashed and they called me within 24 hours and helped get my business back up and running!
Cons :
Other Thoughts : I did have to call customer service a few times but they did return my call same day. Thinking about upgrading.

  •   Glass Eye 2000
By on
Pros : While this program works reasonably well, in the end you will regret buying it. The license issued with the program purchase works once! No re-installs. If you have a hard drive failure, which you will eventually, or other damage that results in the loss your license, you will pay full price for another. If you don't, you lose all your previous design files. Think about it before you buy!

  •   Terrible
By on
Pros : I seriously have no comment on any pros. The description of the software sounds much more positive than the software itself.
Cons : One of the main features of the software was that you could pick glass and plug it into your design. This feature did not work for me. I spent HOURS online with someone from Dragonfly software and even he was stumped as to why this feature did not work. This issue was NEVER resolved. Also, I really wanted the feature that figured out the cost of the glass needed for a piece. Did not work. The advice for Dragonfly, because they couldn't fix it, was "try a new operating system on your computer." I have Vista. So, without any guarantee, I need to spend another $100 or so to get a new operating system IN THE HOPE that this software will work. I updated to a semi-professional system, so I spent close to $400 for NOTHING!!! I don't recommend this software.
Other Thoughts : I had a customer rep actually get on my computer and navigate to figure out why certain features would not work. He could not figure it out. So, I was left high and dry. I spent over $400 for nothing

Pros : I love that I can import photos. The tutorial is easy to follow and very helpful since I am not a computer geek at all. Just wish I had more time to "play" with the program. It is loads of fun.
Cons : None.

  •   Excellent Program
By on
Pros : I have the basic version of Glass Eye 2000 and it does a great job. I mostly copy patterns or other backgrounds and the program allows me to convert them into the cartoons needed to produce panels. I have been using Glass Eye for many years, and other than not having the features that I didn't purchase, I couldn't be more satisfied. It would be nice to have a workable auto-trace instead of having to do it by hand.
Cons : I had to purchase Glass Eye 2000 as there was no upgrade available for my ancient original version of the program.

  •   Great Program
By on
Pros : Glass Eye 2000 software has exceeded my expectations! After using the standard version for about a year, I upgraded to the professional version and it’s been well worth the money! I create my own designs from scratch or scan photos & trace them. I can move elements; allowing visualization of different layouts. Resizing designs is simple & I never have to worry about going through the laborious process of redrawing. I experiment with different glass colors & textures before deciding on my final choices. The properties page helps determine exactly how much glass I’ll need before I order it. The framing feature allows me to accurately determine the size of my panel & frame; a critical factor when making sidelight & transom windows that must fit perfectly. Finally, it has a method I can use to accurately price my work. I highly recommend this program!
Cons : none

  •   Frustrating
By on
Pros : The software is actually quite easy to use, has lots of patterns and is actually quite intuitive.
Cons : If you buy a new computer or have yours fixed they make it a headache to reinstall. You have to call them and get a new number to install with and then they question you and act like you are stealing their software. Now that computer is down and I refuse to call again so we are out the money we paid for this software.
Other Thoughts : Great for the time used.
