Silver Art Glass Jewelry's Profile

Bio

Catherine Randolph Hamilton co-owns Gallery 527 in Scottsville, Virginia. She works in a variety of media, with a focus on fused glass and chain maille. She was a regular contributor to Fired Arts & Crafts magazine for both glass and precious metal clays. Her glass work has been featured in Crafts Report magazine. She is a Delphi Art Glass Festival winner, having placed in several categories. Her work has been featured in Delphi’s annual catalogue. Catherine’s chain maille has been featured in Art Jewelry magazine. She is a Fire Mountain Gems and Beads Metal Working Contest winner and many times B3 contest winner. "I love glass: the textures, translucence, colors, and nature of glass- it's melted, honeyed consistency; rigid fragility; and delicate sharpness. Just as light is important to the painter, so it is essential to glass. Light and the resulting reflections, glowing highlights, shadows and complex patterns become a part of the work which defines its innate beauty. It is something which transcends what the artist can do with mere physical materials. Thank you for visiting my Delphi gallery, and I hope you find either joy or inspiration in my work, as I do in yours."

Great for drop-outs, April 18, 2015 5 stars
Pros
Easy to cut and shape, sands down well, holds up well after firing, and won't stick to the glass. I used this product to make a drop-out mold for use with a thick pot melt disk. It holds weight and leaves a clean surface. I was able to bevel the sides of the hole I cut in the board and sand them smooth for a nice finish. Quick and easy.
Cons
As expected, upon firing the board produces quite an odor. Ventilation is a must for safety.
Other Thoughts
This is a great product for making custom shapes without a lot of fuss.

Beautiful Detail, March 2, 2015 5 stars
Pros
Shape and size are perfect at approx. 9" x 7" for a finished leaf. By changing the colors you can achieve a variety of looks. Can be draped or slumped on other molds- just check visually and Skip Step when desired. Glass remains thin and does not draw in too much during firing. Veins are very detailed and natural looking. The slumping side creates a defined leaf plate, which is perfect as a dessert plate or hors d'oeuvre tray. This is one of my favorite molds.
Cons
None so far. I really love it.
Other Thoughts
The pdf file associated with the mold recommends using black powder for the veins. This is okay, but a mixture of black and brown produces more natural looking results.
