This one of a kind sculpture is part of my Roadster Series, inspired by the slick custom paint jobs on classic automobiles. It is made of handblown glass, wood and metal components.
The glass component is handblown with white glass, and patterned with orange and cherry red murrine.
Murrine is an Italian term for coloured patterns made in a glass cane (long rods of glass) that are revealed when cut in cross-sections.
Different colors of molten glass are layered on a metal rod, then heated and stretched out into a long glass cane. When cool, the cane is sliced into cross-sections of desired thickness with each slice possessing the same pattern in cross-section.
