Description:
I wanted to create a piece to show the wonderfully striking glare of a bird of prey in flight. It struck me that dichroic glass would be a perfect material to create these eyes. I found a beautiful photograph of a short-eared owl taken by Brian Hansen which captured this fabulous glare perfectly, and also showed the full wingspan of the owl, creating the effect I was searching for. I used smalti for the bird’s feathers in order to create a three-dimensional effect against the twilight background of flat glass. The piece is very simple, but hopefully effective.
