"Unpromising Beginnings"

Layers of personal and cultural history are assembled in this sculptural piece measuring almost 4 feet tall. 

Recycled and found objects include  elements such as old dishes, barbed wire, comics, family photographs, Victorian styled lamp parts, cassette tapes, glass marbles, etcetera.  These items have been assembled to tell the story of a human life from birth through childhood, adolescence and  adulthood.  The piece is electrified and glows with the words "Love" and "Fear", 2 basic emotions, forming the base in aqua coloured cast glass with found copper wire inclusions.  The top is a lamp which triumphantly terminates the piece like a corinthian capital with the words "Passion" and "Life" screened onto the surface.

The piece was created in 2010 by glass artist and architect, Chris Jette of Canoe Cove Studio and ceramic artist Wendy Johnston of Wendy Johnston Pottery. These two have been interested in creating art from found objects and have collaborated on a number of art pieces over the past few years.
