Hummingbirds in Flight

I made this 20" window for my big brother for Christmas.  The pattern is a compilation of two or three patterns I had...the hydrangias were from one and the hummers from a couple of others.  It's made using COE 90 glass and I added a little dichroic to the throat area of all the hummingbirds.  I used my light table to select the glass pieces and to decide which direction I wanted the grain to run and then using my Toro cutter I cut nearly 500 pieces (which sat on my workbench for months while I contemplated the grinding that lay ahead...yes, I'm a fanatical grinder).  A few of them had to be finished using my saw, but most went directly to the grinder after hand-cutting.  I layed the pattern out on the light table and fit all the pieces into place using tiny dabs of glue...the fitting took several days so I made sure to cover the project to keep dust and kitty fur out (I have 7 cats).  I wanted it to have dimension so I fired it to just round over the edges enough to blend it together leaving enough raised so that each piece was noticeable...it's good to have peep holes in your kiln for this part.  This was my second large fused window...I'm normally melting glass on a torch.
