Recycled Reflections

A friend who was remodeling her master bath, donated a very large mirror to me.  I smashed it into pieces and was very pleased with the results!  Some of the mirror shards resembled waves of water.  I have always loved Monet's waterlilies.  In a way, I am paying homage to his beautiful work by creating this "Waterlily Wall" using bits and pieces of my leftover stained glass projects, mirror and black grout to bring out the various tones.

I used two 2 x 4 foot pieces of wood for ease of movement.  I wanted the undulating effect of water - so I prepared the base with spackled bumps.  I smoothed the bumps out with a sander, then applied a couple of coats of white primer.  Then I began to assemble and glue down the mirror pieces, adding in my discarded glass pieces inbetween.  My husband stacked the two panels to form an 8 foot tall by 2 foot wide finished piece.  He prepared a sturdy frame to push on from the front, then installed this on our great room wall.  I love how it changes and reflects the light differently throughout the day.
