Death Smiles Sweetly - Sugar Skull Panel

 Stained Glass Day of the Dead Sugar Skull. I call it Death Smiles Sweetly. This is a custom made, one of a kind original work of art featuring 93 hand cut pieces of glass. 

I created this to look very organic and asymmetrical like the hand drawn Sugar skull drawings and paintings that I love from the traditional Dia de los Muertos Mexican folk art. This piece of house jewelry come with two attached hanging loops and is ready to hang.

The finished piece measures approximately 10.75" wide by 14.5" tall.

The background is a striking burgundy colored Baroque glass that was cut from a single piece of glass to maintain the pattern and texture of the glass throughout all of the separate pieces. The glass selected for the eyes and nose is an opaque black glass with an iridescent coating that provides a unique rainbow effect. The skull was also cut from a single piece of glass to maintain the fluidity of the pattern throughout the work.. This method is a lot more difficult and time consuming but the end result is a lot more satisfying.
