Creation

This window is an original design inspired by the Creation scene on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel by Michelangelo.  The famous gesture and posture were borrowed from him, but the context of the gesture was changed.  We find a woman reclined on a hill and a man in a tree reaching for her.  Behind them we see the earth and the stars.  The lines radiating from their touch indicate the cardinal directions with north at the top.  It can be the creation between man and woman or perhaps the creation of the earth.  It is open to interpretation.

The piece was made from Wissmach glass and measures 24 1/4" x 41 3/4".  The faces, hands and feet were painted and fired to define their features.  Her necklace was made from dots of solder and a red crystal bead on a wire.  The stars are two different sizes of Swarovski crystals glued on in the shapes of the constellations visible in the night sky on the night the artist was born.  The solder on the direction lines was done with copper patina for emphasis, the remainder was done with black.
