Pink Flamingo

This mosaic is done on one of the panels of my French Doors in my studio. I would estimate it has well over 2000 pieces in it. This took me a period of about 2 winters. It's has been a real conservation piece because people just can't believe I had the patience to work on such a detailed piece. Some of the pieces are hand cut and ground such as the bamboo and most of the leaves. I took the pattern from an outdoor flag that I have. I love flamingo's and thought this would be so cool to have done in glass. At one point when I started the grouting I thought it had been ruined. My mother-n-law was suffering from the horrible disease of Altheimers. I had just started the grouting when we received a phone call that she had taken a turn for the worse, so I just stopped and left to go to the nursing home. When I returned home later that evening the grout had set as I didn't have time to wipe it down. I really thought the piece was ruined. I litterly had to set for hours picking with a razor blade to clean off the excess grout. But needless to say it was worth it and cleaned up beautiful.
