Guarding Precious Moments
Artist:
2009
Clock is made of glass, including all of the bulldog guarding precious moments of time. Construction of the dog took approximated 36 hrs as each piece of glass is individually cut. The challenge of glass as a medium is the cut naturally is in a straight line. Layering and combining of images takes multiple firings. Approximately, 48 hrs of firing was used to create the bulldog image. This technique is called fused glass or hot glass. Upon completion of the image, the glass was drilled with a diamond bit in order to add the clock hardware. The risk associated with drilling glass is the entire piece can shatter. The final product depicts a functional piece of art.
