Flanders' Survivors

This piece is finished but not complete; just as the lives of fallen soldiers are finished yet incomplete. This metaphor for the tragedy of war worked its way into a window originally destined for a bathroom. I purposely made the window look rough ( esp. The framing) as I wanted it to look as though it had been torn from its rightful place - the same as any soldier called to ultimate duty. The red glass has been twice fused ( tac and then full) to add dimension. Adding to the story are the authentic ( leather ) Canadian dog tags from World War I -a nod of acknowledgement to the Canadian author of "In Flanders Fields" , Lt.Col. John McRae, M.D. (d 1918). I have also used, in an attempt to add realism, a "bullet" hole in one panel of the piece. I encourage people looking at this tribute to touch it, feel it, and try to connect with its age old story - even if from 100 years ago (1915)!
