Wedding Cross

A friend was getting married and I wanted to make them a very special gift.  It is 11 inches tall.  This is what I wrote on the letter that accompanied the cross.

Catholics have always had a tradition of hanging a cross over the door leading outside the house. The thought being that every time we passed through the door, we would be blessed and reminded that our family serves the Lord.

I chose to make a white cross to celebrate your marriage and your new home.  I drew the design myself.  This cross is one of a kind. There will never be another one exactly like it. Every piece of glass is unique and tells its story in different ways.

White is used to symbolize reverence, marriage, and peace.  I chose the solid white glass to represent permanence in your new life together.  I carefully selected the coordinating milky white glass to utilize the swirls to accent the design.  Just like in life, sometimes it’s a swirl that carries us away.  But in the end, the swirls all surround the core of solid white, like the solid core of your marriage.

The red heart symbolizes strength, passion and love. It is laid over the cross for structural strength. It shows that love is required to have a solid union.  It is not a perfectly shaped heart.  Many things in life are not perfect.  Use this imperfect heart to remind you that when things don’t always go the way you want, there is always the strength of love in your marriage that you can draw on.
