The pieces are original and approximately 22” x 36”. As a stain glass artist you come across sheets of glass that are just too beautiful to cut. I wanted to figure out a way of using the full sheet.  I leave the glass as a whole piece in a large window until I "see" something in the glass. I then start sketching it out in a way that makes use of the glass as a whole. 

The most important thing is to place the eyes and nose appropriately. The detail of the eyes is key as you want the eyes to pull you into the piece. Animals have worked best so far but I am hoping to try a landscape soon.

I use my glass saw to cut each piece individually. I start in one corner and work my way horizontally across the glass. It's difficult managing to move a full sheet around but it gets easier as the sheet gets smaller. 

Sometimes the glass did break but as long as it was a clean break - I just incorporated it into the design ( an advantage to creating your own rendering - no one can tell when you make a mistake)  I scattered a few highlight pieces throughout to add a bit of visual interest. 

Each finished piece takes between 300 to 400 hours to complete.
