Mardi Gras Blue Jazz

Description:

I have always loved and enjoyed dressing up in costumes and wearing fun, festive jewelry!  What is even more exciting, is creating jewelry that is “ART you can wear”!

“Mardi Gras” with its bright colors, shiny beads and flamboyant French influences has inspired this line of my jewelry.  I simply call it my: "Mardi Gras Line".

Each of my Mardi Gras pieces takes many hours to complete.  The cabochons were individually made from 2-3 specially cut pieces of colored & dichroic glass. They were then fused in a kiln 2-3 times to achieve the desired effect.   Certain cabochons from this collection were chosen for size, colors, patterns, flow, and design.   They were meticulously placed and attached to each other to construct one large pendant for this unique, bold presentation.

The exclusive sterling silver bail gives an impressive appearance and took many hours to complete.   It was created from raw sterling silver which was put though a rolling mill, molded by hand into form,  and fitted around the constructed cabochon pendant. To achieve the brilliant finish it was hand sanded with 4-5 different grits of paper.   Polished with 4-5 different polishes to achieve the mirror shine.  Finally, it was mounted to the finished cabochon pendant permanently. This particular silver bail is very large and extends from the backside around to the front of this piece adding exceptional detail by highlighting the glass cabochons thus creating the piece I envisioned.

The beautiful sterling silver choker collar was also made from raw sterling silver. It attaches to each side of the large pendant bail with a fun whimsical filigree which continues the festive flow!  It took many hours to determine the size of the necklace, adjust the fit to have the piece lay properly on the neck, and finish the metal with the same process as mentioned above so the two pieces matched perfectly.   The choker collar continues to the clasp and has a 2" extender complete with specially chosen glass beads as the tassel.

The first two pictures show two views of the entire necklace on a fun background.  The next one is a close-up of the back view of the bail.   In the final picture, I am wearing it to show the size, scale and fit.  It is very comfortable and weighs only 2 1/8 ounces.  I am extremely excited with the finished piece. I think it is wonderful!
