New Zealand Adventure

Description:

My mosaic design was inspired by a trip I took to New Zealand. I made it on the back side of an old fire pit. Around the outer edge are the names of some of the cities I visited along with assorted beach rocks and shells. The blue represents the ocean surrounding NZ with the whale tail rising as I went on a whale watch while in Kaikoura. The ferns represent the Silver Fern which is an icon in New Zealand. The mosaic continues to the grass, the mountains and the blue sky. I also have a seal which are numerous along the east coast, a kiwi bird, New Zealand's national bird and a sheep, which far outnumber people on the south island. In the center is the Maori symbol Koru which represents an unfurling silver fern frond and is symbolic for new beginnings, hope, personal growth and peace. I did this symbol in a dark green representative of the Jade found on the west coast. I plan on hanging this in my backyard as a reminder of my amazing adventure.
