Pet Memorial Lampwork Pendants

These beads were made with a beloved pets ashes so the owner could keep him with her, near her heart, to let him know that she will always love him.

Tonya and Angus were inseperable. Angus was a playful pup with lots of love and affection and passed away peacefully. The owner contacted me asking if I could do these pieces for her and I told her I'd try my best.

After a few tests, the glass didn't crack when adding the ashes though heating of the bead when applying a clear glass top coat did create bubbles that were likely to crack pieces. With these findings, I decided less was better.

I used 90 COE glass rods, applied the ashes, swirled with a tool, added the clear coat, and formed the beads into flat pendants to reduce air bubbles and help prevent cracking while annealing.

These were the first successful pieces that I have ever made incorporating ashes and i think the swirl patterns really portrayed that sense of wonder and playfullness that she wanted me to convey.
