The inspiration for this piece came to me at a stained glass class. One of the other women was making it in a full-sized snow shoe and I fell in love with the idea. When my husband found me a small snow shoe, I knew I had to try!
The stained glass sits in a shoe that is 33"x9"; with the piece itself only 7 3/4"x12". I found out that the pattern she had used was from a picture on Pinterest, which I used as the basis for my loon.
I love the way the water seems to dance in the sunlight and while the glass doesn't completely match the loon feather patterns, it mimicks it just enough that as the viewer, I see what appears to be a life-like loon from our northern Minnesota lakes.
What completes the loon is a red glass bead that I used for the eye.
