This plate was made for my boyfriend who is Navajo. I asked him what kind of symbols he favored and he mentioned that his aunt used to make jewelry with this particular design. I translated that into glass.
The process was relatively straightforward. I cut a piece of gold iridized glass into a circle and did the same with a piece of clear. I then created the design, transferred it onto the glass and used my Dremel with a diamond bit to etch the pattern. Everything that is black on the glass was etched by hand.
I love this piece - not only because it was a challenge to get the design just right but because I can share it with my boyfriend - now fiance. This design has been showing up in our lives in different ways ever since I made the plate and it seems appropriate that it will also adorn our wedding rings as well.
I hope you enjoy the plate!
