Times Squared 2016

This chandelier, 32" in diameter, took almost 2 years to make. The pattern is of my own design.

First I had to make a form strong enough for construction & light enough to maneuver. I made the globe in 2 halves. They were separated for almost 5 months. I was anxious that after so long they might not fit well but they went together almost perfectly. There is brass wire along many of the seams inside & out, for stability. The turquoise & red circle with the keystone shape at the top is hinged to allow for changing the bulbs (even though it has 4 energy saving led lights inside.)

The circles are all blown or spun rondells surrounded by colored "petals". I had to make 10 different templates for the petals as the rondells varried in size. The glass pavement is clear baroque. The clear circles in the pavement are all textured.

I thought it would be discouraging to count how many pieces are in it. I estimate 250+/-. We estimated that it weighs 40 pounds +/-.

It's hung on a beam below a skylight so is lit during the day by the sun. I've included a picture from the installation to give a sense of how big it is.The man in the picture is on a chair.

It makes me happy to see it everyday.
