Wave Woman

This was a commissioned piece.  I was asked to create a mosaic based on a needlepoint leather purse from the 1970s.  I tried to find out who created the original image, but to no avail.  In addition to being inspired by the original image, I was also inspired by the image of "The Wave" by Japanese artist, Katsushkia Hokusai.

This was done on a 22" diameter cement board substrate.  Individual tesserae of stained, iridescent, and dicroic glass were hand-cut and then glued to the substrate.  Once all tesserae were in place, the piece was grouted using three different grout colors.
