"New Mexico Shadows in Glass"

The window, measuring 5' x 3' is a rendition of a watercolor painting by New Mexico artist Sean Wimberly and rendered into stained glass by Cheryl Ryder of Los Lunas New Mexico.  Originally painted for the Albuquerque Convention and Visitor's Bureau offices in the early 1990's, it was used as the cover photo for the Visitors Guide, which is where Glass Artist Cheryl Ryder first spotted it.  The image was available for sale as a poster, and, after having obtained both the poster and permission from the gallery that then represented the artist to reproduce it in stained glass for personal use, the enlarged pattern was created and this stained glass window was the result.  The image depicts the long distinct shadows that are cast through tree branches onto the adobe garden walls of a traditional New Mexican home.  Cheryl collected glass here and there for nearly two years before beginning work on the window, because she wanted to have both color and texture represented as well as accuracy in lighting from both inside and from without.  Included in this 15 square foot window is glass from nearly every US maker: Bullseye, Uroboros, Chicago Art, Oceana, Youghiogheny, Armstrong, Spectrum.  Finally the soldering was done in a style that accurately represents the natural wood stems of the plants depicted, and then stained with Cheryl's private formula for creating a brownish-red patina.  The window is installed in Ms. Ryder's home.  Mr. Wimberly maintains a web site at: https://seanwimberly.fineartstudioonline.com/galleries and is currently represented by Bill Hester Fine Art in Santa Fe, NM, http://www.billhesterfineart.com
