Heron Cooktop Backsplash Mosaic

0 loves
Description:

Since we were building a home on the marsh outside Charleston, SC, I thought it appropriate to carry the marsh indoors with a cooktop backsplash mosaic detailing 2 herons, a fish and a dragonfly. There are approximately 2000 pieces, each with ground edges so as not to catch the dishcloth or hands that frequently wipe it down. Using a streaked gray/white glass for the herons, it was important to use the pattern within the glass to display the direction of the feathers. Since a heron's eyes are very small a bead was used. Also note the pattern in the glass used for the fish as well as the log.

This design was developed by myself using photos of herons for the inspiration. It is 24"X30". The mosaic was created by fusing the glass pieces to NO Days Mosaic Mesh which the tilesetter installed while applying the subway tiles (but I wouldn't trust him to grout).
