Microcosmus

Microcosmus is a 19 inch diameter vessel which is created by kiln carving.  Fibre paper is used to create the pattern, in reverse and upside down, which requires some mental gymnastics.  Powder is applied in a painterly manner, which yields a surprise when the work is fired and seen for the first time.  The vessel is then coldworked, sandblasted and finally slumped into a ball mold.
