Rosalie's Phoenix

My name is Rosalie and I have been a Stained Glass Artist for over 40 years as an integral part of Mabelle’s Stained Glass Originals Studio.  Long ago I was tutored into this media by my mother.  Those were the days when we smoothed the rough glass edges with a whetstone wheel driven by a two-stroke motor.  As the years passed, my joy working with stained glass using light and color have grown.  And sometimes the whimsical in me demands to be free. 

I have often been asked to repair broken beveled doors that have been massed produced.  They are very symmetrical, so I usually have odd pieces leftover.  (I, personally, have not mastered beveling.)  I have also noted the popularity of re-purposing.  So..., I have repurposed bevel spares starting with the standard, mass produced pattern.  My creativity and love of vibrant color has metamorphosed from within the previous design.  Rosalie's Phoenix fights to be free, not from behind, but from the heart.  The Phoenix even has a glass beaded talon merging from the panel.  The coronal rays are accented with iridized glass.  Seven rays, red legs, head crest, and cobalt -yellow eyes are depicted from the literary classics of Van den Broek, Carla, and Berti.

The panel is a standard full-sized French door, but is currently framed in rough cedar.  It measures 66inches by 24 inches unframed.  No support barring is evident to the eye.  The Phoenix is seductively strengthened from within using restrip, steel rods and the Tiffany method of copper foiling finished with a warm copper patina.
