Description:

This work was created using a Patty Gray Dam Mold.  It is approximately 3/8 " thick.  I also used fiber paper to kiln carve the hand, which I had drawn first on sketch paper.  The fiber paper is layered to give dimension.  The hummingbird was created first by cutting glass to block in the shapes and colors. I then fired the piece according to the mold instructions.  Now the fun part.  Using powder frit I dropped the colors in the appropriate place, using a soft brush to  manipulate the powder. I capped it with clear and fired again. Next I mixed CBS glow powder with the colored frit, capped it again, and fired.  The last step was dephi glass enamels to just add detail in the feathers.  This time I fired to a cooler temperature, around 1400 degrees.
