Stained glass with copper foil.
The brief: Roses for the alcove of a plant lover! It needed to be light and airy, to fill the space without being overpowering.
I love the idea of bringing the outside world inside to maintain our connection to the wild. The rose spills out from the confines of the structure and grows into the surrounding space in an organic and natural way, reminding us of the power and beauty of the natural world, of nature continuing on her own way regardless of our exertions. I also love that glass does not have to be confined to frames and definite edges, that it can flow and become organic, breaking free. I find working with glass exciting and very rewarding. I love that it is so definite, so unyeilding and yet with careful thought and design it is able to be made into organic flowing shapes and patterns.
