"Fearless"

I was approached by a coworker and friend, with a 4 x 6" photo.  He asked if I could make a stained glass window from the picture.  I asked what the picture was about and he told me that the photo was taken of his parents holding hands shortly before his father died of brain cancer.  At the time it was taken, he and his siblings didn't think much about the photo, but after the passing of their father, it took on a whole new, and cherished meaning.  I told him that a stained glass panel would not tell the story, and give the detail as a mosaic would, so I set out to do my very first glass on glass mosaic.  Here is the end result.  I am so happy with the end-product, and the several months it took to complete it, bonded me to this project heart and soul.  The panel was given to their mother as a memorial to their dad, and I am told both by her and the kids how amazed and blessed they are to have it.  Their mother was brought to tears.  

I made the 24" x 24" panel with stained glass pieces of a multitude of colors, as well as some smalti to add texture to the sleeve and hands.  It took about 5 1/2 months working nearly every day after my regular job to complete. As I stated previously, this was my very first glass on glass piece.
