The Glastonbury Saints Window

A four-light window with tracery, commissioned by the trustees of Glastonbury Abbey, Somerset, UK, for the medieval St. Patrick's Chapel in the Abbey grounds. It depicts Our Lady of the Abbey with the infant Christ in front of the Abbey ruins; Joseph of Arimathea planting his staff on Wearyall hill, which sprouts into the Glastonbury thorn; St. Patrick driving the snakes out of Ireland; St. Dunstan unmasking the Devil, disguised as a woman, by grabbing his nose with red hot blacksmith's tongs; St Michael standing astride Glastonbury Tor about to slay a dragon which lives in the hill; St Brigid of Kildare, follower of St Patrick. The borders depict snakes in a celtic knotwork style and the traceries depict two angels and the Dove of the Holy Spirit.
