The Red Barn

On the Old Mission Peninsula near Traverse City, a fall drive takes us by beautiful old barns nestled in tall, colorful trees.  I keep this gorgeous picture alive by making it into a panel I can see every day!  From a photo taken on our annual color tour, I traced the pattern for this 15" x 15" panel. This panel changes character quite a bit from daytime, when the daylight is coming through it, to its night-time character, when light from in front (as seen in the third view.) Aside from all the beautiful tree colors, one of my favorite parts of this panel is the barn roof.  The clear quarter reed glass creates the perfect illusion of the metal roof on this barn.  I also used a new (to me) patina process -- I applied black patina to the solder and wiped it off before it dried, leaving a gently gleaming gray patina that perfect accentuates the antique quality of the barn and its surroundings. Looking at the glass panel, I can almost feel the history of this old farm, and hear the whisper of the leaves!
