Woody Pecks Wood

Last fall, this HUGE pileated woodpecker showed up and started in on the tree at the corner of my lot.  For days I saw him at the tree when I looked out at the lake, and I heard him, too.  I realized my husband would be much more appreciative of a glass woodpecker than then rel one pecking at our trees (and the posts on our house!) so I made him a glass one! (The 12" x 12" will soon be installed in the transom above a window overlooking the lake.)  The bird is traced from a photo i took of him, and the background is a mash-up of several photos of my yard and the lake beyond it. Beyond the lake is the hill that surrounds it, topped by the clouds that take on the color of the sun that has just settled beneath the horizon.  Using twisted wire, I created the bare late-autumn trees that stood stark against the blue lake, the hill across the water, and the evening clouds.
