Sacraments & Seasons Cross

Recently installed at Windsor Heights Lutheran Church in Windsor Heights, Iowa, the Sacraments and Seasons Cross is a 5-panel stained glass mosaic that measures 11.5 feet wide by 13.5 feet long. The center mosaic, which is mounted on stained, carved aspen wood, represents the Holy Sacraments while each mosaic arm of the cross represents one of the four seasons. Designed and produced by artist Dana K. Leahy, the 5-piece cross took 2 1/2 years to complete and features a total of 38 square feet of glass -- the majority of which was cut and shaped by hand. In keeping with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's motto: "God's Work. Our Hands.", Dana incorporated 15 different hands into the composition, as well as the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion into the center panel and the myriad gifts of nature's four seasons into each arm of the cross.
