St. John the Theologian

Description:

This Stained Glass window titled "St. John the Theologian"' measures 43" wide by 67" high. The inspiration for this window was from a Byzantine icon painting made by a friend Barbara, to honor her late husband, John. She received permission to have it installed in a window at the Church of Francis de Sales in Mathews, Virginia. I created this window using traditional stained glass techniques, lead came, copper foil, vitreous painting, and fused glass.

The commission work was larger than I normally can do at home, so I completed the project at Cristallo Art Center in Newport News, Virginia. Ali Rogan is the owner of CAC and she taught me how to do the traditional painting to emulate the inspiration icon painting. It became a labor of love taking approximately 400 + hours of work.
