This piece is 1.1m high and about 40cm deep. The base is mannequin legs. The piece is covered with Spectrum and System 96 glass and Spectrum reflective glass, cut into tiny squares. It is grouted in black, except for the bottom of the legs which are in brown, and the shoes in grey.
I love glass, colour and recyclling. In Australia, discarded items are left on the street for the taking. A customer of mine found these mannequin legs with holes in them, and brought them in for me to mosaic. I studied some leggings to get ideas for a design. Then I drew a rough design on the legs and off I went. Initially it was going to be a table base, but when I made the fused glass table, it didn't look good together. So I left it as a sculpture.
They have created a great reaction. People find them quirky, and they say it makes them feel happy when they see them.
