I am a self taught amateur who has been making mosaics for about a year. I got the idea for this project last November but did not find the wood for the base until December. The base is a large slice of pine approximately 1 ¾ inches thick which I purchased from a man who does chain saw art, because of the snow it was very wet and it took a long time to dry out. I also had to treat the wood to prevent further cracking. The base still has several cracks but I think they enhance the piece. The mosaic is 31 inches wide and 28 ½ inches tall and will hang on our wall. I am very happy with how the tree came out.
This has been and is a learning process and I still have a long way to go especially when it comes to use of color but I am proud of how the mosaic turned out and decided to share it.
