This mosaic is 12" by 24" without the frame.  It is made of many tiny hand cut pieces of stained glass and river stones.  I went whitewater kayaking last summer and I was inspired to try to express it in glass.  I cut each piece as I go.  I first painted the scene on the board and then I was able to use a mixture of opaque and transparent glass which really helped with the watery feeling.  I was very excited to use a transparent glass with a sheer layer of color to further vary the colors within the piece.  I also tried something new and used real river stones which really gives it a 3D effect.
