Yahzi - Navajo for "little one"
I recently acquired my first Navajo rug and have become very interested in them. A friend of mine, who is a weaver, challenged me to mosaic one!
This mosaic taught me so many new methods and processes I've never used before! I created the substrate (Kerbi Board shaped), that gave movement to the little rug, and I also created the background for it to rest upon. I added the stick (found in the garbage in the shop) as a last minute idea. I had created the "lip" at the top of the blanket to hang, but didn't really like it just by itself. Finally, I beaded the tassels in the corners to give it even more realism.
The rug is 10" x 17" and the overall dimension is 16" x 21"
