Western Door

I build wall-hanging, illuminated pieces called lightbox lanterns. I hand-paint clear architectural glass with ink and powdered metallic pigment, then solder the edges. The wooden support panels are painted with oil and house the wiring and battery packs behind. On this piece the border is created by decoratively soldering over a latticework of copper foil shapes. Black patina is applied then abraded away for a vintage look. This piece is 16 x 24 inches.
