Dragonfly Lamp

This is my Spread Wing Dragonfly Shell Lamp I made back in the late 1990’s. We always would vacation at Cape May, NJ and at night would shop on Washington Street that had many consignment shops and artisan areas. We were in one shop and there was a stained glass lamp that had shells and a dragon fly pattern that my wife was considering purchasing.
I looked at it to get an idea of how the pattern was laid out and I told her that I’d make one like it, but bigger. The one in the store was a 16” cone the one I made is a spread wing from a Wooden mold that was 22”.
The challenge was to redesign the glass and the jewels to accommodate the shells [picture]. I used black glass [picture] to highlight the shells when the lamp was lite. This is one of my favorite lamps because I love the beach and it reminds me of all the vacations we did at Cape May!
