Hurricane Ike Mosaic

0 loves
Description:

This mosaic was a tribute to the people that personally experienced the great hurricane on the Texas Gulf Coast of 2008, Hurricane Ike.  The glass, tiles, pottery, ceramics and cog used in this piece were left on shore from the eye of the hurricane.  I came up with the shape of this mosaic by watching the actual radar from the hurricane and this represents the hurricane just as it came on shore.  The mosaic itself in on a thin piece of plywood with a natural stone clay border, which is painted a metallic sea green to represent Galveston Bay.  I made a shadow box frame to mount it on and the mosaic sits about 1" off the background to form a shadow effect.  The frame is 2' x 2'.
