Diptych: Kenosha Light House & Red Witch Sail Boat

This is a Diptych that was contracted by a customer who lives in Kenosha, Wisconsin. They wanted two panels. One with the Kenosha light house and a second panel featuring Kenosha’s sailboat The Red Witch. In the process of designing the two panels, I decided to create a diptych. My customer, at the moment, has two different windows, so the panels will not be side by side. They also move quite often. Creating a diptych now gives the option of displaying the panels either separately or as a cohesive unit.

In desighing the light house I used a clear crystal jem to create the light shining through to guide ships on Lake Michigan. I also used pretinned copper wire to give the top of the lighthouse the small details to create a more realistic vision.

in creating the sail boat I also used pretended copper wire for the ropes, in that way I didn’t have to use a lot of small pieces in creating a more realistic look for the sails. My next problem was creating the American Flag. Do to the small size I opted to create the flag in a kiln using small pieces of glass and frit.
