Description:
Inspired by the poem of the same title by Pablo Neruda as told in the film "Truly, Madly, Deeply," La Muerta, or the Dead Woman, came to me on a rainy Spring afternoon in China almost five years ago. A few years later, sitting in a production of Riverdance in Peoria, Illinois, flipping through the concert program revealed a stylized photo of a very intense flamenco dancer, strangely at odds with the buttoned-down focus for which Riverdance is known. Her face was a maelstrom of joy and passion so strong it bordered on pain. She became my template for the piece, which has lived and died and been recreated in the past year. Muerta is now about a foot tall, as she dances in a storm of crimson.
