Description:
My friend gave me some of her mother's china dishes to use for mosaic projects, so I created this piece for her as a sweet memory of her Mom. This mosaic trivet combines china pieces with stained glass flowers applied to a wooden plaque as the substrate. Painted the plaque with Kilz primer front and back, lightly sanded it, then handcut china dishes and combined the pieces with handcut stained glass flowers to create this piece. Used Weldbond glue to affix the glass and china to the plaque, then finished with a pretty pink grout by adding a small amount of red grout colorant to white grout. Painted the outer edge of the plaque to complement the piece with glossy wall paint purchased as sample paint from the hardware store. So when my friend uses her mother's china, she now has a matching trivet! It could also be hung on a wall with a picture hanger.
