Beverly's Moon and Star panel

Description:

I started with a star suncatcher and added the moon with lots of bevels and jewels.  This is an original design that I developed by hand (no computer assistance).  I used a 12 inch circle template to help me with the moon.  I was careful to have the beams from the star extend in an over-under pattern for more visual interest.  The panel measures 13" wide by 12" tall and contains one (1) 1.25" clear round jewel, two (2) 1" clear round jewels, eight (8) 1.5" x 2.25" diamond bevels, and three (3) .75 x .75" square bevels.  I used two types of clear glass and two types of while opaque glass.  The circular exterior edge of the moon is reinforced with a long copper strip and it's hung by a chain. With the mix of clears and opaques, this panel looks great in both daylight and at night time.  With the clean lines, this panel could be made by a beginner-to-medium experienced artist.

I'm currently working on a larger version of this pattern and planning to change the moon out to a light blue.  The new version will be using a 14" circle template and the star will stay the same size.
