Gone Native

This is my first attempt at making a stained glass wreath.  I have been thinking about this design for 6 months (lots of research) and it took 3 months to make.  I used a 16-inch ring, but the final size for this was 23"x23", and this wreath weighs 8.5 lbs!  I have added 64 leaves and chose California Native flowers and insects/bird as my subjects.  Starting from the top (going clockwise) Silver Lupine, Anna's Hummingbird w/nest and eggs, Indian Paintbrush, Monkey Flower with lady bug, Baby Bue Eyes with bee, and Sulfur Buckwheat with Monarch Butterfly.  I also added red Toyon berries and blue Elderberries.  I have been working with stained glass since December 2019 and love to challenge myself with different techniques, especially more realistic 3D pieces.  I use overlay on my butterflies and bees and use various other media on my glass which include beading and glass paint.  As a volunteer at our local Native Plant Society, this was a true labor of love and I have many more designs in my head that I want to create.
