Double Story-Telling Celtic Knot

The inspiration for this piece came from a Celtic spirituality tour that I took in Ireland.    As part of the tour, we climbed Croagh Padraig (Croag Patrick), Ireland's holy mountain.  As we climbed, we could look out on the panorama and back down at Clew Bay.   Our guides, an archealogist and an Irish folklorist, told us stories of St. Patrick, Garland Sunday, and the many pilgrimages of Ireland's faithful who climbed Croagh Padraig barefoot at dawn.   The climb and descent together took just over five hours, so there were many stories!  The double story-telling knot is a fitting tribute to the experience and inexorably links the stories from the past with the present.  Each piece was cut and assembled by hand.  The teal blue and green Spectrum waterglass recreates the misty hues of Clew Bay, and I used bendable brass came to recreate the occasional glint of sunlight on the water.   The finished knot is just over three square feet and measures approximately twenty-six inches in diameter.
