The renovation of an 1865 Historic Hotel located in the rural town of Marion, Kansas was undertaken by Pettijohn * Kinney, Architects & Interiors in 2003. During the preparation of Construction Documents the Owner expressed a desire of having stained glass panels at the glass circleheads of the five entry doors.
Mr. Kinney volunteered to undertake the project. The Owner envisioned glass panels that would represent aspects of Kansas’s history. Themes selected were "Buffalo, Wagon Train, Farmer Plowing, Sunflowers and a Farm Scene". To date two panels have been designed-constructed and installed. These being the Buffalo and the Wagon Train. Panel sizes are 46" wide by 29" tall.
Mr. Kinney first took a glass instruction class from a local artist in 2001. It wasn’t until 2005 that he actually seriously pursued the craft. This submission represents the largest and most extensive undertaken by Mr. Kinney.
