Lakescape Vase

Description:

This vase is part of  my Lakescape series, handblown glass with murrine inclusions.

Murrine is an Italian term for coloured patterns made in a glass cane (long rods of glass) that are revealed when cut in cross-sections.  Different colors of molten glass are layered on a metal rod, then heated and stretched out into a long glass cane. When cool, the cane is sliced into cross-sections of desired thickness with each slice possessing the same pattern in cross-section.
The free-form pattern of my Lakescape Series is inspired by Georgian Bay in Lake Huron (Ontario), one of the largest fresh water lakes in the world.  The blue/green murrine pattern is an interpretation of the green space and natural landscapes stretched out across the shores.
