The Bee’s Knees

This is a fused glass bumble bee made from mostly freeze and fuse flowers.  I created a stencil of a bee and using black powder on clear glass, I created the background of the bee's body and wings.  Then, I used sgraffito in the center portion of the bee and sifted yellow powder over the black to create the fuzzy hairy look of the bee.  After firing, I then used yellow and black flowers, leaves and bees to to fill in the body, wings and head.  It was then fired again.  After firing I decided that it needed borders to cover the tabs from the frames, but because I didn't want to lose any definition on the flowers, after I cut the borders, I fire polished them and then glued them to the edges. I then mounted the piece in a black frame.
