Glass Fusing and Slumping

There’s something endlessly captivating about fused glass art. I love the way colour melts and transforms inside the kiln. Every firing surprises me with tiny shifts in texture, movement, and transparency that make each work completely unique.

My first piece features a bold geometric composition: a square (well, almost a square) divided into four vibrant sections. I made deep cobalt blue, seafoam green, sunny yellow, and rich magenta create a striking patchwork effect, then added dots for rhythm and movement. I like that the surface reflects light and shines like a jewel. It is modern and cheerful and can be used as a coaster, while floating circular inclusions add rhythm and movement. The glossy surface reflects light beautifully, giving the glass depth and a jewel-like finish. Its simple structure allows the colours themselves to become the focal point, creating a modern and cheerful design.

The second piece is more sculptural and expressive. I filled layers of transparent glass with flowing green ribbons, warm amber and crimson shapes, and scattered bursts of colour. When I heated and slumped it into a curved form, I thought it could be a shade or a shape to put in front of a window or a light.

What makes fused glass so exciting is that working with glass is a balance between control and unpredictability. I am the one who arranges each component, but the kiln ultimately influences how the glass flows and merges, which determines how it goes. I feel like I am collaborating with heat. This collaboration between artist, heat, and material is what gives fused glass its dynamic character.

Whether geometric and minimal or layered and organic, my glass art interacts with light, seeming almost alive where it sits on my shelf.
